18 June 2012 09:41:30 AM My girlfriend and I stayed at the Orchard Croft B&B in Jordan Station (PERFECTLY central to the entire Niagara wine region!!!) June 15-16, 2012.We have nothing but RAVING things to say about this place. The property itself, the house, the food, the hospitality;
it was all by far the most lavish and luxurious we’ve ever experienced. Ildiko was the most attentive, friendly, and perfect hostess we’ve ever experienced (and we honestly couldn’t POSSIBLY think of any improvements possible). In every way, we recommend this place to couples, families (the house can accommodate up to 10 people, though Ildiko can easily accommodate serving an army!), singles, retirees, quite frankly, anybody!The Property: The B&B is a pristine house, newly renovated, sitting on a peach orchard (hence the name). It’s easy to find, centrally located for wineries, the falls, and everything else the region has to offer. You can hear birds chirping and otherwise, silence. The back yard is really something special; a beautiful deck with a fireplace, outdoor hot tub, comfortable patio furniture, and of course, the hypoallergenic and friendliest dog, Fanni (who can be completely out of your way if you let Ildiko know beforehand). The rest of the yard is pristinely manicured and surrounded by row upon row of peach trees. There are also two hammocks for guest use (and for an outdoor nap after the giant meals) and a fire pit.

The House itself: I wish I could live here. There are 3 rooms for typical guest use, and two in the basement for overflow if necessary (Ildiko lives downstairs full time, so she’s always there for you, never intrusive, and it is definitely a beautiful space more than suitable for children – contact Ildiko if you are interested, but we could have spent the entire weekend in those rooms and felt the same bliss). The common areas include a den with a beautiful TV, books, and DVDs, a large dining room/living room area with couches, painted murals on the walls, and a large breakfast table. The kitchen is also clearly available, and despite Ildiko’s massive use of it, it’s spotless (literally…I never saw her cook, I never saw her clean, I never saw a dish…yet everything was always made and perfect).

The Rooms: We stayed in the Champagne room. Wow. The bed = perfect. The linens = perfect. The TV with satellite = perfect. The temperature = perfect (to any taste, fully adjustable). The bathroom = Jacuzzi tub + 2-headed rainforest shower + marble + skylight (need I say more?). We saw the Merlot and Riesling rooms too, and their décor was superb. I’d stay in any of the three rooms any time. There is no wrong choice.

The Food: THE FOOD! Let me put it this way; I have never eaten so well in my life. We paid Ildiko for dinner the night we got there to celebrate an occasion…she made us a 4-course meal on the deck with champagne (well, sparkling wine from the local 13th Street Winery). Every ingredient came from her orchard or from her neighbour’s properties! LITERALLY. She made her own pesto for the salad, her own rhubarb cream soup from scratch, a Hungarian dish (she was born and raised in Hungary) that I would probably request as my last meal, and a baked pear for dessert. Sound like a lot? It was. Dietary restrictions? We don’t eat meat, yet we never had any, nor did we just eat plain vegetables. This is far better than any restaurant we’ve EVER been to (and we’re foodies!).

Breakfast:
It deserves its own separate category. For starters, there’s a tray by your door in the morning with fresh coffee (in a press) and fresh local berries with a biscuit. You come down for breakfast and there’s a glass of freshly squeezed OJ, croissants, and her own HOMEMADE strawberry jam. When you’re finished that, you get a parfait with, you guessed it, HOMEMADE granola, a nice thick yogurt, a beautiful syrup, and fresh berries on top garnished with a mint leaf. The presentation is first rate on everything. Then comes your hot meal. I can only assume that she has a repertoire of a bagillion (yes, it’s a real word in these circumstances) different recipes that you will have never ever tried before and will dream of for years to come. I’ll bet that if you have a favourite Hungarian dish and let her know in advance, she’d make it for you too.

Verdict: I clearly can’t stop talking about this place. I can’t stop smiling after my perfect weekend. The prices were a
steal considering what we got. I’d take this over the Four Seasons with a personal concierge ANY DAY. We will be back for the B&B, but mostly for the impeccable hospitality. Ildiko, thank you so much for an amazing weekend, we can’t wait to spend more time with you!!!
